Candida are yeast that live in our bodies that can cause adverse reactions like rashes but is it true that they can also cause you to crave unhealthy food? Yes! Some of your unhealthy eating habits and food cravings could be down to an overgrowth of candida bacteria and the more candida gets, the more it wants. Eat healthy food and drink plenty of water to cleanse your system. It’s also a great idea to exercise as sweating helps your body release toxins as well.

Once your digestive system has a better balance of flora, you will not only see your yeast infection symptoms disappear but you will quickly find that you no longer have heavy sugar cravings. Having an infection is one thing; actually avoiding yeast infections is another. You see, when you have such an infection you can get over-the-counter or prescribed medications to treat it. Unfortunately, these tend to address the symptoms of your infection rather than the underlying root cause(s). You may already know that your symptoms are caused by a yeast-like fungus called Candida albicans. These fungi naturally occur in your body, but normally don’t cause you any problems, because your body’s good bacteria keeps them in check. But when they fail to do this, the fungus can ‘overgrow’ into a yeast infection.

When drugs just address the symptoms, and not the root cause, there is nothing to prevent your infection returning. Although the Candida fungi cause the symptoms, the underlying issues that set-up the conditions that allow the fungi to grow are things such as; high blood sugar levels, a lowered immune system, reduced beneficial bacteria numbers, hormonal imbalance and certain drug therapy.

Let’s concentrate on high blood sugar. Yeast feeds on sugar and the more sugar available to it, the more it can grow. So if you have high sugar levels, then you are more at risk of infections. To reduce this risk you need to reduce your sugar intake and so avoid yeast infection with diet. This means avoiding certain foods.

Clearly, you need to avoid all sugars. This includes jam, sweets, artificial sweeteners, fructose, sucrose, dextrose, glucose, chocolates, dried fruits, canned fruits, baked beans and other canned foods. But there is another source of sugar, and that is refined carbohydrates. These break down into sugar in your digestive system. Another food type to avoid are dairy products. This is because farming methods nowadays regularly use hormones and antibiotics, and these can end up in dairy products. While yeast infections are very common, many people don’t understand the underlying causes and risk factors. An important concept to understand is that the bug that causes yeast infections, Candida albicans, actually exists in our bodies even when we are healthy and don’t have an overt infection. This is perfectly normal and not a cause for concern. It is only when the inner environment of the body becomes unbalanced that Candida will overgrow and cause infection.

So what does this have to do with diet? In fact, what you eat can have a tremendous effect on the likelihood that the Candida that naturally occurs in your body will take over and invade healthy tissues. Think of it this way: If you’ve ever baked bread, you know that all it takes for yeast to grow is a warm location and some sugar. Since your body is already at the perfect temperature, all that Candida needs to run rampant is an excess of sugar.

Because sugar is the primary food source of yeast, eating too much sugar (or any foods that are quickly converted to sugar once consumed) can cause spikes of glucose in your bloodstream and therefore cause Candida to overgrow. It’s not as simple as “avoiding sugar,” however. First of all, there are a lot of hidden sugars in processed foods. If you take a look at nutrition labels, you may be surprised to see how much sugar is added to foods like crackers and soups.

Second of all, you also have to keep in mind that foods that are quickly processed by the body into sugar are just as bad as eating the sugar itself. Refined carbohydrates, like white flour and white rice, are quickly converted into glucose after you eat them. When you do eat carbohydrates, instead of choosing those made with white flour, opt for whole grain and whole wheat varieties. Not only are these not processed into sugar as rapidly as the white varieties, but they’ll help you get plenty of fiber. Many women turn to a natural cure yeast infection treatment to manage the overgrowth of Candida in their body. If you suffer from chronic yeast infections, you’ve probably tried every medical remedy available. You take suppositories and creams, hoping that this time you will get rid of the infection for good.

Foods like rice cakes, nuts and seeds, lentils, sprouts, unprocessed meat, soy milk, brown flour products, beans, onions and eggs should form a part of your candida yeast infection diet. As I said earlier, also include yogurt and garlic in your diet. Apart from this eating cranberries can be extremely beneficial. Cranberry helps to lower the pH level of urine. So when urine passes out of the body, it tends to increase the acidity of genital area, thus washing the infected areas clean of yeast.

Apple cider vinegar has a natural anti-fungal property. Fill up your bathtub with warm water, and pour one cup of unfiltered, unpasteurized apple cider vinegar into the water. Soak in this for at least 20 minutes. Repeat at least once a day until your yeast infection has cleared.

Garlic – It’s said that garlic will offer you instant relief. One way to use it is to insert one garlic clove or tab into your vagina every few hours until you feel relief. Make sure the garlic tabs are pure and natural. You can also take a garlic tab internally, or drink a glass of water with a pressed whole garlic clove.

You can either make your own at-home-douche treatment or you can buy one over the counter containing only water and vinegar. If you choose to make the mixture at home you can use a quart of lukewarm water and three tablespoons of cider vinegar. You can use the mixture as a douche one time each day. You do not want to use the mixture more than once a day; otherwise you may experience vaginal dryness and irritation. This remedy should not be used more than a seven day period.

Garlic is another great anti-fungal treatment option that is all natural. In my personal experience I have found that simply by eating larger than average portions of garlic it has significantly cut down on the amount of my yeast infections. Otherwise I like to grind up a few cloves and spread the paste on the vaginal opening and around the vulva area.

Honey also has natural anti-fungal properties. Although this is messy, raw organic honey can be used to treat yeast infections topically. Apply with your hand, or coat a clean tampon with the honey and insert. Leave in place for two hours. Repeat twice daily until your yeast infection has cleared up.
