Background to Oral Thrush

Oral thrush is the term given to yeast infection of the mouth and throat. All yeast infections are caused once Candida bacteria are able to develop out of control. After this takes place the bacteria could begin localised or systemic infections in various parts of the body.

Candida bacteria are generally present in the human body just like numerous other bacteria and they are required to retain other unhealthy bacteria under control. However, under a number of conditions, the Candida in our gastrointestinal area could grow out of check and could after that convert from a yeast type into a fungal type which could create root-like structures and breach the walls of our intestines. This can let yeast, bacteria as well as incompletely digested food to move into the blood stream and this is how the disease might find its way to various areas of the body. Localised infections including thrush can next ensue.

What Allows the Candida to Proliferate?

The Candida bacteria are typically kept under control as part of our healthy interior stability as a result of friendly pro-biotic bacteria. It is as soon as the normal equilibrium is upset that Candida overgrowth can happen. This may come to pass in a number of situations:

-Antibiotics may possibly be given to deal with a distinct health condition. It is frequently the case, though, that the antibiotics might destroy the friendly pro-biotic bacteria along with the unhealthy bacteria that they were intended to treat.
-Hormonal changes through the monthly cycle or as a consequence of pregnancy could disrupt the natural internal stability.
-An high blood sugar level owing to inadequately controlled or uncontrolled diabetes could cause the Candida to grow. Yeast like to feed on sugar.
-If our immune system is destabilized or damaged due to recent illness or else something more threatening such as HIV our bodies might struggle to keep the regular internal equilibrium.
-Higher than ordinary levels of anxiety might be a factor in diminishing our immune system.
-A bad diet with too many refined carbohydrates such as white bread, white rice and white pasta with not sufficient fruit and vegetables might produce raised blood sugar amounts which the yeast will feed on. A deficient diet will what’s more not supply the necessary vitamins and nutrients which our immune system requires in order to work correctly.

What Is Oral Thrush?

Candida yeast is generally present in the mouth however without triggering any nasty symptoms as long as a normal healthy balance is maintained. Unfortunately, as described above, under particular conditions the yeast can reproduce and grow to be a nasty disagreeable illness.

Oral thrush might come into being relatively suddenly and without much warning and, reminiscent of all types of yeast infection, may be very persistent if not treated swiftly and comprehensively. If the symptoms are not dealt with rapidly, thrush could spread down the throat to the oesophagus and potentially, in acute cases, to the skin and lungs.

Symptoms of Oral Thrush

Oral thrush can begin through a sore, burning sensation in the mouth and throat and can subsequently make thick creamy white lacy patches on top of a red base. This usually forms on the tongue and/or inside the cheeks and perhaps on the roof of the mouth, on the gums or the rear of the throat.

Eating, swallowing and brushing of the teeth may become incredibly painful also it could feel as if something is frequently caught in the throat.

Kids who all of a sudden lose their appetites for no perceptible reason may be victims of oral thrush.

Why We Should Initiate Treatment ASAP

The crucial message at this juncture is that if a person has the symptoms of oral thrush it is very probable, in actuality exceedingly likely, that they have begun to develop an overgrowth of Candida in their gastrointestinal tract.

I would consequently advise that a full program of treatment should be begun without holdup so as to stay away from the odds of the infection becoming systemic and causing difficulties in many other parts of the body.

How to Treat All Kinds of Yeast Infection

The general recommendation on treatment is identical for all kinds of yeast infection, including oral thrush. There are various over-the-counter treatments available to get relief from the symptoms. It is exceedingly important, however that action is taken to reinstate the proper inner balance so that the condition does not come again or worse turn out to be systemic.

Thrush affects men, women and children and can be developed anywhere on the body. It is a painful and embarrassing chronic condition and most women can attest to this. The most common yeast infection in women is thrush or vaginal yeast infection as it is also known. It affects 75% of women aged between 18 and 45 and occurs mainly before menstruation and during pregnancy.

Thrush is an infection caused by an overgrowth of fungus (candida) and can occur in the colon, vagina, stomach, throat, mouth and rectum. The main reason we get thrush is through regular use of antibiotics, birth control pills, steroids, stress and a weak immune system for example from cancer treatment. There are many remedies available that will cure thrush, be they prescribed drugs from your doctor or chemist or natural remedies.

So how do you know if you are suffering with thrush? In the case of oral thrush you would experience white creamy patches in your mouth, difficulty with swallowing, red spots on the roof of the mouth and throat. For women with vaginal thrush the most common symptoms are a white vaginal discharge, burning and itching, soreness and swelling of the vagina and vulva.

As part of speedy recovery try and stay off any antibiotics and other yeast producing products that can interfere with the natural course of the treatment until your symptoms disappear. These include: alcohol, coffee, sugar, yeast breads, biscuits and cakes.

The following are some measures that you can adapt get fast relief from thrush infections:

Oral Thrush cures include with salt mouth rinses, eating natural probiotic yogurt daily, taking flaxseeds and regularly eating garlic – all these remedies if combined will help attack yeast infection fast.

Vaginal Thrush cures include tea tree oil douche, garlic, unsweetened yogurt applications, apple cider vinegar douche. Along with these measures you will also need proper vaginal hygiene. Keep the vagina clean and wear cotton panties instead. DO not use any deodorants and perfumes to suppress vaginal odour. If possible avoid sexual intercourse and try and stay off oral contraceptives.

A yeast infection arises as a result of yeast cells in the body growing at an abnormal rate. For a woman this is often in the genital area. If the infection returns four or more times during the year this is known as a recurring yeast infection. Although there are a lot of reasons for yeast infection to appear – and to return – here are a few of the most likely causes of yeast infection:

Diabetes

Possible causes of yeast infection are those sugars such as glucose and glycogen which are likely to exist at higher levels for diabetics unless those levels are carefully controlled. These sugars are especially attractive to the yeast, which feeds on them

Changes That Affect The Immune System

Also important causes of yeast infection are the medications and other antibiotics which may be prescribed that have an impact on the immune system. Those who suffer from HIV are especially at risk because the lower effective functioning of the immune system is unable to control the growth of yeast and, even when apparently cured, infections are likely to recur.

Avoiding Pregnancy

The hormone progestogen is often a component of birth control pills and those with stronger levels of dosage are more likely to cause a yeast infection. A brand such as Levelen is known to contain these stronger levels.

A simple way to eliminate the infections which arise from this source is to stop taking the brand of pill which instigates the infection. This usually means switching to a brand which has a lower dosage of progestogen. However, it may take up to three months after discontinuing the pill to obtain the desired result.

Some foods are also known to encourage yeast infections. This is especially the case with those high in sugar, such as sweets and desserts. The yeast which is the cause of most of these infections is candida albicans and it normally digests sugar. However, it can grow abnormally if too much sugar is available.

Hot And Humid

Some areas of the body, such as the vagina, naturally trap moisture and these are especially prone to yeast infection. If you wear tight pants or pantyhose, the damp conditions are attractive to yeast, which is a form of fungus.

Be sure to properly dry your body after swimming, bathing, or exercising. If moisture remains this can provide ideal breeding conditions and is a very common cause of yeast infection.

There are many causes of yeast infection and in some cases control and prevention is a fairly simple procedure. Conditions which encourage the development of this infection include moisture in vaginal areas, sugary foods, pills for birth control, medications that reduce the effectiveness of the immune system, and Diabetes.

If a woman is diagnosed with having a yeast infection, her concerns may not be directly connected to the infection itself due to her knowing that vaginal infections are treatable. It is the body part that the infection troubles that she might have the issue with like being “embarrassed.” Yeast infections are treated on a daily basis on women from around the globe regardless of skin colour. If you know what a vaginal yeast infection is, then you’ll know it`s not a life threatening condition but if you have no knowledge on the matter then it is good for you to get a better understanding. Doing this may help you accept the reason why it is happened and more importantly how to prevent it.

A yeast infection, also known as candidiasis is an infection caused by yeast called candida albicans (fungus) which love clammy body parts, such as the mouth and other moist areas. If a vaginal infection has occurred from this then it is known as vulvovaginal candidiasis. Yes it is a rather long word to remember let alone try to pronounce but don`t worry; your doctor will know what you mean after you explain your symptoms. Candida can outnumber for many reasons i.e. stress, pregnancy, and sicknesses that affect the immune system.

Although antibiotics are a powerful curing agent they can however destroy the “good” bacteria that naturally live in the human body. Good bacteria are a vital element in helping keep growth of candida in the vagina under control. Yeast flourish greatly if a young girl`s blood sugar is high. Before the start of periods (menstruation) is when we recognize this condition to happen in young girl`s due to hormonal changes. Material tightness around the genitals can give rise for a yeast infection. Douching and particular scented bathroom products can upset the natural balance of bacteria in the vagina and make yeast infections more likely. Some women believe it necessary to use perfumed products on their vagina, well stop believing because the vagina would be a far healthier organ without feminine smellies. Never douche unless under GP orders. Use specially created soaps/cream-washes for bathing the vagina. Speak to the counter assistant in the chemist on the best products purposely devised not to irritate or cause vaginal infections.

What to look out for if you have yeast infection:

itchy vagina

irritation in the vagina

redness and swelling,

itchy vulva

white discharge thick in consistency and appearing clotted with a yeasty smell,

pain/burning when urinating or during sexual intercourse

Discharge is an obvious sign of a yeast infection, and usually one of the first symptoms to show. Not everyone gets the discharge. If there is itching in and outside the vagina then you can tell from this. Each individual differs, and due to these differences symptoms can differ also, in terms of type and intensity. A man infected sees the head of his penis affected. The male infection is also seen as caused by the same candida (balanitis.) Balanitis symptoms, redness, sore or itchy penis tip and sometimes discharge.

Help prevent yeast infections.

Yeast develops in a clammy, moist milieu. Keep genital area dry and airy. Give genital site room to breathe. If possible go without underwear when you can. Clothing items to avoid are tight jeans, Lycra, nylon knickers, tights, and other synthetic materials that lock in moisture. Do this and you help reduce yeast infections occurring. Fragranced soaps, bubble baths/lotions, and just in general washing detergents can be accountable for irritation which then gives way for yeast infections. Wear loose breathable fabrics that allow you, not only space, but contribute to airing the vagina. Wear all-cotton panties. Keep the vagina/anus dry and free from sweat. If you feel the vaginal area moistening up then bathe, dry and air. Remove wet bathing costumes or trunks as soon as. If you feel restriction on movement while wearing items as such then this tells you they are not ideal. Do you need to see a doctor? Yes it makes sense. What you might believe to be a yeast infection may not be. It is due to much confusion that women have as many vaginal problems like they do. They tend to treat their ailments with inappropriate vaginal creams which are unhealthy and dangerous.

Have your GP determine your condition, since other vaginal infections are akin in symptoms but require different medications. You may be asked to bring along to your appointment a sample of urine – to rule out a urinary tract infection. A smidgen of vaginal discharge maybe requested for tests. If you`ve been diagnosed with a yeast infection, your prescription may include oral medication (tablets) or a vaginal cream or suppository. Whatever the medicine follow all instructions accordingly. A suppository will come with an applicator to assist you with vaginal insertion. If you find this uncomfortable do speak with a nurse at the clinic. A yeast infection nearly always clears up with prescriptive drugs and normally as quick as in 7 days. Some women prefer using vaginal cream than other for relieving their vaginal itch.

Both non-prescription and prescription medications are 90% effective regardless of time scale. A short time course of treatment will not make a slightest bit of difference to that of taking a long time course. Shorter treatments contain higher doses of healing ingredients while longer treatments contain less. The people we spoke of earlier whose worry lie with the embarrassment thing will more times look to find a home remedy for a cure in hope to avoid a doctor’s appointment. If you be one of these people who blush easily and is looking to treat your own yeast infection, then make sure you know what you are doing?

Have you ever heard of “Reishi,” it is a homemade solution concocted up from a medicinal mushroom and widely used in Japan as a treatment? Consult your GP before trying unfamiliar treatments and practicing unknown methods. You only need a little quantity of the mushrooms to feel them working. The good thing about Reishi is, it comes in many ways so you will find one way to suit. It can be added to tea, applied as a tincture or put in syrups, and most common in tablet form. Some people find it hard to swallow tablets so therefore these options give them choice. As we speak there has been no indication to say a patient suffering with a yeast infection has had side effects from taking Reishi, nevertheless there is always the first time for everything. Monitor yourself while medication is in progress. Another home remedy is called Osha which is effective in fighting bacteria as well as yeast cells, but more importantly for ridding the infection.

Eat yogurt, aside from helping in the vaginal quarters, it is a healthy eat. Yoghurt contains helpful bacteria (live cultures, including acidophilus and bifidus) that kill yeast. Insert plain yogurt into the vagina using a finger. Be careful and just gently rub no harsh hand movement. Take your time and make sure you’re comfortable before you begin the procedure. Take lactobacillus/acidophilus supplements. Use according to the directions on the bottle. Never do other than suggested in the instructions as it won`t speed up the curing process and you can make matters worse. Cut down on sugar and sweet foods. Yeast growth is hurried along by sugar.

Use a garlic clove as a suppository. Garlic contains a natural anti-fungal agent. Peel a fresh clove, wrap it in gauze and insert it into the vagina. Garlic has wondrous benefits for many things. Years ago garlic was rubbed on an open wound before an operation. Call into your local herbal shop or chemist and ask to speak to the herbalist or pharmacist about gentian violet or a herbal douche

Candida, or thrush, is a really troublesome condition that affects both women and men.

Anyone who has ever experienced thrush or candida knows only too well of the discomfort and distress that this troubling condition can cause. So what is thrush and can it be prevented?

The medical name for thrush is candida or candidosis. Thrush is caused by an overabundance and imbalance of bacteria and natural fungal yeast found in the body. It commonly manifests around the woman’s genitals although it can affect men and may also appear in the mouth.

Oral Thrush

Oral Thrush can be seen as cream colored or pale yellow spots within the mouth which can be very uncomfortable; it is often accompanied by a burning, sore sensation. If you are experiencing such symptoms, a doctor should be consulted to diagnose the condition as it can mask other more serious conditions such as mouth cancer.

New born babies can develop oral thrush from picking it up during birth when passing down the birth canal. Drinks of cool water, especially after a milk feed, help to relieve the discomfort.

Other sufferers can include denture wearers, people with poor nutrition or an immune deficiency as well as those prescribed steroid medication or steroid inhalers.

Treatment is through the use of prescribed antifungal medicines that generally stay in the mouth for a while such as pastels or mouth washes.

Genital Thrush in Women

Initial genital symptoms tend to be an itching and a burning soreness in this sensitive area. This is soon followed by swelling and itching deep within. Sometimes the woman also experiences a discharge. The discomfort is such that, no matter what the sufferer is doing, it cannot be ignored.

Naturally, fast and immediate relief is desired by the sufferer. Unfortunately, effective treatment takes time, however washing with cool water or soaking in a cool bath can help to bring relief as can applying nappy rash cream or specific creams formulated for the job.

Longer term relief can be obtained from the application of an overnight pessary, either a brand name (which generally has an external cream for simultaneous use), or the pharmacy’s own brand. These are available both on prescription and over the counter.

Doctors may prescribe weekly pessaries or tablets for women who suffer from frequent attacks of thrush in order to put a stop to the annoying cycle.

There are several things which can cause thrush in the genital area. These range from antibiotics or the controlled application of chemotherapy; wearing close fitting underwear and/or tights; overly rigorous cleaning with soap of the affected area and diabetes.

It can also be brought on through bodily changes caused by pregnancy or passed on through intimate contact from one partner to another. Despite the latter, thrush is not classed as a sexually transmitted infection or STI.

Understanding the reasons that thrush occurs helps in controlling and eradicating the condition. Common sense home control measures can include:

- Stop wearing tights. If tights must be worn, use crotch-less ones

- Wear loose fitting panties, jeans, pants/trousers

- Wear pantie liners which are renewed regularly to ensure the infection does not remain or spread. Frequently changing sanitary wear is a must

- When washing the genital area, do not use soap. Use aqueous cream or a soap substitute instead

- Be sure to thoroughly clean your hands after visiting the restroom, or try applying cream to the area affected

- Keep a cloth specifically for the genital area and boil-wash it regularly

- Refrain from using perfumed products on the genital area as these can cause irritation and encourage thrush.

Genital Thrush in Men

Although not as common as with women, men may also suffer from genital thrush. In men, it tends to show itself under the foreskin and/or red patches on the shaft. A discharge may also be noticed.

Treatment is by the use of anti-fungal creams or tablets.

Some home control measures are identical to those recommended for women. e.g.

- Wear loose fitting underwear, jeans, pants/trousers

- When washing the genital area, avoid the use of soap. Use a water based (aqueous) cream or a non-allergenic soap subsitute instead.

- Wash your hands after going to the toilet and wash or use cream on the affected area.

- Keep a cloth specifically for the genital area and boil-wash it regularly.

- Refrain from using perfumed products on the genital area as these can cause irritation and encourage thrush.

Finally, thrush and candida, though unpleasant, can indeed be controlled by good hygiene, though it may not necessarily be caused by poor hygiene itself.

Diagnosis by a medical doctor, often through a swab test, is highly recommended in order to rule out other conditions and obtain the correct medication.

An oral yeast infection is also called mouth thrush or oral thrush and is very uncomfortable to live with, as well as being unpleasant and unsightly. It is possible for this sort of yeast infection to also spread itself to the throat and the lips.

Put simply, yeast infections are caused by an excessive growth of the candida albicans yeast which is found naturally in the body. If the yeast grows out of control, it becomes a problem which is commonly called thrush.

Thrush symptoms go hand in hand with other diseases and are often occurring in people who have a run down immune system or have recently taken antibiotics. It is simply an imbalance of the bodies natural organisms.

It is possible to spread thrush through direct contact, and therefore if you have any kind of yeast infection it is important to undertake good hygiene.

There are many options available as treatment. Some people like to take prescribed medications which are available from your doctor, while others prefer a more natural remedy.

It should be noted that many natural remedies offer a money back guarantee which prescribed medications do not, and therefore many people prefer to opt for these treatments knowing that the companies promoting them have confidence in their products.

It should be noted that if you opt to take prescribed drugs that your resistance to that medication will build up over time, making further treatments less effective. This is one side effect that does not occur with natural remedies.

Yeastrol is a great thrush treatment which eases symptoms to reduce the length and severity of an outbreak, as well as working with your body to ensure that further outbreaks do not occur.
