The problem with yeast infections is that yeast is a natural part of the human body. It only becomes a problem when the yeast grow out of control. This often happens either because the body’s pH balance is off, or because other organisms, which are the natural enemies of yeast, have been killed off, which is the case with antibiotics.

1. Avoid antibiotics. This means any time a doctor starts to prescribe an antibiotic, you should remind him or her about your tendency to get a yeast infection. He can then assist you by prescribing a yeast medication, or decide against the antibiotic, if it isn’t necessary. Also remember that most of our meat has been given antibiotics regularly, so cut back on your meat intake.

2. Take acidophilus every day. You can find it mixed in with other vitamins and minerals in many stores. It will help your body maintain its pH balance, which helps to keep the yeast in check.

3. Cut back on sugar, which is food for the yeast. This means not only processed sugar, but fruit sugar and sweet drinks too. Since natural fruit is good for you, it may be best to just cut back on that until the outbreak is gone, but it’s best to cut back on processed sugar much of the time (that means cake, cookies, etc.)

4. Cut back on bread and beer. Bread and beer both contain yeast, so the less you put in your body, the better.

6. Choose your clothing carefully. Avoid plastic or nylon-based underwear. Choose white cotton instead, which can breathe. Avoid tight jeans, and choose loose pants or skirts instead. Wear a loose fitting dress at home, and skip the underwear altogether.

7. Avoid chemicals. Many laundry detergents and bar soaps contain chemicals that can irritate your skin. Look for 100% natural, chemical free versions, and switch brands if you continue to have problems.
